NOTICE TO RESIDENTS

The Northeastern York County Sewer Authority will be conducting smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system in our service area as part of our ongoing efforts to inspect and maintain the public sewer system.
Smoke testing helps us identify potential problems in the sewer system, including cracks, leaks, improper connections, and other sources of unwanted water entering the sewer lines.
What You Can Expect
During the testing, a non-toxic, odorless smoke will be introduced into the sewer lines. The smoke may be visible around manholes, sewer cleanouts, roof vents, or other areas connected to the sewer system.
The smoke is non-toxic, harmless, and will not harm plants or landscaping. It should dissipate quickly once the testing is complete.
Residents may notice smoke entering their homes or buildings if a plumbing trap is dry or if there is an issue with the plumbing system. If you see smoke inside your home, do not be alarmed. Open a window or door to allow the smoke to dissipate and contact us if you have concerns.
Before Testing
To help prevent smoke from entering your home, please make sure that all plumbing fixtures that have not been used recently – such as basement sinks or other drains – have water in their traps. Simply running water down the drain can help ensure the trap is filled.
Testing will take place in various parts of East Manchester Township, starting October 12 and continuing throughout the fall and winter months. Residents may see Authority personnel and testing equipment in the area during this work.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to maintain and improve our sewer system.
If you have questions or concerns about the smoke testing, please contact Drew Dubbs at Northeastern Sewer Authority at 717-266-1493 ext. 103.
Thank you, as always, for your continued cooperation.
